DALTON, GA—Rain was falling intermittently as members of the
Dalton, Ga., Seventh-day Adventist Church met for a potluck supper and three
baptisms at the home of Dr. and Mrs. John Chung Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009.
There was an air of excitement as Greg Harper, church
pastor, again introduced the three baptismal candidates: Emily Jorge, Will
Arnold, and Jerry Henderson. They had been initially introduced during the
worship service on the previous Sabbath.
After each candidate shared his or her testimony, various
individuals told how that person had impacted his life and what he admired
about the candidate. The three had been attending the Wednesday evening study
groups at the Chung home for some time and had studied with Dr. Chung and Harper.
As if in answer to Dr. Chung’s specific prayer request,
there was a lull in the rain falling. Everyone gathered around the swimming
pool. Before each candidate was lowered into the water, Harper read a Bible
promise tailored to his or her spiritual gifts, and the group sang a stanza based
on Phil. 1:6, which reads, “He that began a good work in you will be faithful
to complete it in you.” At the close of the baptismal service, the rain began
again.
