CRANDALL, GA—Each year the Children’s Ministries Convention is held for children’s leaders to “inspire, inform, and put in practice what have learned and share with someone else,” says John Swafford, director of Junior and Children’s Ministries.

This year the event took place January 29-31 at Cohutta Springs Conference Center. The weekend was held despite the snow and about 80 people braved the cold and attended some of the 30 or so workshops offered.

Claudette Hendrix, of the Atlanta Belvedere Church attended the conference for the second year and said she came for “training, more information, and networking.” She is working on her children’s ministries certificate and really enjoyed the Gracelink program for the Primary class taught by Julie Cassell.

Judy Martin, of the Chatsworth, Ga. Church, has been leading her Vacation Bible School program for the past five years. She attended because she is researching which Vacation Bible School program to use. “It’s helpful to see what VBS is this year—helpful to see the program ahead of time and have an idea of what you are getting into.”

Candy DeVore, Review and Herald Editor, Kids Ministry Magazine, attended the Children’s Ministry Convention to share the new VBS program: KGCN or Kids in Gods Communication Network. “This program was created for summer 2010 and includes Bible stories, games, crafts, snacks, God doing everything he can to talk and communicate with our kids. He wants to talk to them and He is waiting for them to talk to Him.” The KGCN VBS program costs $129.99 and is available at your local Adventist Book Center or online adventistbookcenter.com.

Another convention presenter was Randy Fishnell, Guide and Real Magazine editor. He was promoting Real, a new magazine created especially for children ages 8-15 who do not attend church. “The publication introduces kids to Christ, connects to Him,” says Fishnell. Real contains true stories, mission story, games, and bilingual, Spanish and English stories. Go to www.sharereal.org to sign up children who would benefit from Real.
