KNOXVILLE, TN—After hearing about the earthquake in Haiti, Knoxville Adventist School wanted to help the disaster relief efforts. By the end of the
week, two mothers, Drs. Barbara McKinney and Kathleen Goyne had come up with a
fundraiser.
They brought in mason jars labeled Dimes for Disaster and
students were asked to collect change for the next week. Dimes were the main
request, but no money was turned down. Someone had even offered to match the
money collected, up to $1,000.
On Sabbath, it was announced in church and students stood
with their jars at the back doors, after the service ended.
By the end of the collection time, 47 students had managed
to bring in $859. Adding the matching funds, Knoxville Adventist School was able to send $1718 to ADRA for Haiti.
