AUBURN, GA—On Jan. 9, 2010 a
year-long goal was met at the Auburn, Ga., Seventh-day Adventist Church, as they were able to burn the church mortgage. This was the culmination of a year-long
campaign, initiated by the Auburn Evangelism Council to be debt free. In less
than one year the members united together in paying off the last $50,000 of an
$115,000 loan that was taken out in 1999.
For this special service Kurt Allen,
Georgia-Cumberland Conference vice president for finance/treasurer, and Mitch
Hazekamp, conference trust services director, represented the Georgia-Cumberland
Conference. Also taking part were two important leaders who not only had the
dream of an addition to the church, but were also instrumental in the building
process: Barbara Dietrich, who was instrumental in overseeing the addition; and
Mike Pethel who pastored Auburn when the addition was built. Pethel even
allowed his van to be used as a pickup to bring the heavy metal supports over
from Athens.
Members of the Auburn Church are excited about the
future and the plans that God has in store for the church. With the extra funds
available, now that the mortgage is paid off, the Evangelism Council has voted
to offer a Seventh-day Adventist Tuition Scholarship for Auburn students
wanting to receive a Seventh-day Adventist Education. The Lord has truly
blessed this church that first began services in 1992, and being debt free is
just one more step on this amazing journey towards our heavenly home.
