LAWRENCEVILLE, GA—One hundred and seven Seventh-day
Adventists born in Romania and living in the Atlanta area formed the Atlanta
Romanian Seventh-day Adventist Church with the blessing of Georgia-Cumberland
Conference in 1992. Within six months, the group purchased an old church with
the intention of tearing it down and building a new place of worship.
In 1995 the Romanian church in Lawrenceville was
inaugurated. After many efforts and sacrifices, after trials and happy times, after
fourteen years of working hard to pay off their debt, in January 2010 almost
300 members and their guests were present at the mortgage burning ceremony. Kurt
Allen, Georgia-Cumberland Conference vice president for finance/treasurer, and
Mitch Hazekamp, conference trust services director, led out as the mortgage
papers were burned in front of the congregation. Even though the smoke
detectors did not get set off, this ceremony brought a soothing aroma to the
hearts of the people attending, same as the sacrifices of old times used to
bring a soothing aroma to the Lord who has provided many blessings and to whom
we will always be indebted.
