Prayer Ministries exists in order to raise the awareness about the importance of prayer in all our churches and ministries. Furthermore Prayer Ministries seeks to educate and motivate the churches of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference to engage in prayer, to communicate to churches regarding important days and events (like days of fasting and prayer and prayer events from the world church) and to plan for prayer conferences throughout our regions.
One of the best ways to describe prayer is "the opening
of the heart to God as to a friend. . . . Prayer does
not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him" (Steps to Christ, p.
Prayer is absolutely essential to the spiritual health of a believers'
life and is foundational and central to success in ministry and in fulfilling the mission of the church.
Glenn Sheppard put it this way:
"Prayer is the most powerful means we
have to cross cultural, language and racial barriers.
No walls are strong enough or high enough to
keep out prayer.
Through prayer, we
cooperate with God in establishing His kingdom, we release life-changing power,
and we enlist the aid of His ministering
angels to go before us and with us
(Hebrews 1:4). . . .
We must not look to
the methods of men to win the world; instead, we must pray to the Lord of the
Harvest (Matthew 9:38; Romans 10:1).
is the One who sends the laborers, who knows the seasons of men's lives and
when the fields are ripe for harvesting (John 4:35)" Global Prayer Strategy Manual by Glenn and Jacquelyn Sheppard, p. 21-22.
