Desmond Doss, Jr. the son of Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Desmond Doss Sr., will be addressing the students of Collegedale Academy (CA) and Collegedale Adventist Middle School on Thursday, October 12, 2017, during their daily school wide chapel time.

Desmond Doss Sr., became a friend to many. His incredible story of being a conscientious objector, as well as saving many lives during war, became known to the nation in the 2016 release of the movie Hacksaw Ridge.

“Since Desmond Doss Sr., isn’t here to speak for himself, Desmond Jr., is happy to represent and honor his dad’s legacy the best he can. He hopes people pick up on his father’s ability to love, accept, and forgive others, even when he was despised. His values and ability to love was intrinsic in him and the power of that is incredible,” notes the Desmond Doss council,

Students will have the opportunity to learn from, ask questions of and speak to Doss, Jr. about the details of his father’s experiences. After the presentation, CA students will be gathering to assemble the “goodie bags” for the Desmond Doss Half Marathon which will be held Sunday, October 15, in downtown Chattanooga, Tenn.

“As a community, we have a connection with Desmond Doss’s story. We are very excited for our students to have this first-hand opportunity to connect with the Doss story that so well represents divine integrity,” says Brent Baldwin, CA principal.
